History

The Village Vacances Valcartier adventure started in 1963 when Adrien Drouin, Guy Drouin's father, operated "Les glissades du Village," a small winter playground with toboggan runs located on his property in Valcartier.

In 1971, Guy Drouin took over the reins from his farther. His first project was to offer riders a more comfortable experience by switching from toboggans to inner tubes. At the time, it was a world first and revolutionized how people slide on the snow.

Mr. Drouin began operating the park during the summer in 1980 when he added a roller rink, created an artificial lake and developed a few water slides. From then on, new activities and attractions were introduced almost every year. Some of the waterpark's biggest attractions were Everest, which opened in 1987, the wavepool in 1989 and Amazon in 1993. The Winter Playground underwent a major expansion in 1994 with the addition of the Avalanche attraction and snow rafting.

In the summer of 1998, the waterpark added a campground and rafting on the Jacques-Cartier River. It also changed its name from Village des Sports to Village Vacances Valcartier. In 2013, the resort celebrated its 50th anniversary.

Hôtel Valcartier, a 4-star hotel, Bora Parc, the indoor waterpark, and Hôtel de Glace (Ice Hotel) opened in December 2016, making Village Vacances Valcartier the most important resort in Eastern Canada.

On November 28, 2016, just a few days before the opening of these new facilities, Guy Drouin lost his battle with cancer. Today, his three sons, Mathieu, Simon and Jérôme, who were already part of the resort's management team, continue to build upon and pursue their father's dream.
